HIGH VOLTAGE

In everyday life, it is clear how important it is to have a reliable electricity supply that is suitable for both private and industrial applications. Without it, life, as we know it in industrialized nations, would not be sustainable.

In addition to the components needed for electricity production, such as coal and nuclear power plants, as well as renewable energy sources, such as steadily growing wind power and photovoltaic systems, downstream distribution equipment plays a crucial role.
This equipment includes medium voltage components with operating voltages between 1kV and 52kV.

Within the distribution networks, these devices satisfy both connection/disconnection and user protection activities. The pure connection/disconnection task is usually limited to switching the operating current and is performed by a switch.
In the event that a fault occurs in the network or in one of the loads, it is possible to develop fault currents that exceed the breaking capacity of the change device with the risk that it is not able to exercise these currents.
It is in these cases that medium voltage fuses or HV fuses are used for short.
HV fuses are therefore specific protection devices for the other components of the network that according to the same principle of operation for over 100 years.
HV fuses are partly used as autonomous solutions, however they are increasingly used in combination with other mechanical panels with the intention of protecting the load and limiting the effects of faults on other parts of the network.

Typically HV fuses are assigned for medium voltage protection of:

  1. Distribution and power transformers
  2. Engines
  3. Capacitor systems

so the fuses, in the event of an electrical failure, report a reliable separation from the network.
